Excel:  Extracting the year from a date field

The worksheet below contains dates in column A.  The user needs to have the only the year display in column B.

Outlook: Finding Related Email Messages

 

Right click on an email message and select “Find All…Related Messages”.  Outlook will display a list of all emails with the same subject line.

 

 

 

  1. In cell B2, type the formula:  =Year(A2)
  2. Press Enter
  3. Use Autofill to copy the formula to the rest of the cells.

 

Excel: Adding Pop Up Notes to Cells

While Excel’s Data Validation feature is most commonly used to check data that is entered in a cell, it can also be used to place “Pop Up” notes that will display when a user selects a cell  - this might be useful if you want to add some additional information or explanation to a cell entry.  Click here for more information.

 

UNC Charlotte Web Pages: People Finder Updates

The following changes have been made to the People Finder for Employee/Staff:

·         Preferred First Names: The search function now includes “Preferred First Name” field.

·         vCARD:   The small icon found to the right of the person’s name is an electronic business card which can be added to your Outlook contacts.  Double click the vCard icon to open it and then select Save and Close when the contact information displays.

Word:  Linking a Word document to an Excel Worksheet

You can use the Hyperlink feature to link documents from various Microsoft applications.  For example:  You can place a link in a Word document that references an Excel worksheet.  Holding the CTRL key and clicking on the link will open the worksheet.   Click here for more information

 

 

 

Correcting Run Time Errors in Internet Explorer

To eliminate “run time” errors in Internet Explorer, select Tools, Internet Options from the menu.  Click the Advanced tab. In the Browsing section of the dialog box, make sure that Disable Script Debugging is checked, and that Display a notification about every script error is unchecked.  Click Apply, then click OK.
