Banner:  404 Errors when saving Banner report as text file

Issue: The user attempts to save a Banner report as a text file and receives a message similar to this in a document:

404 Not FoundNot Found

The requested URL /pls/BANPROD/gokoutp.P_ShowReq was not found on this server.

To correct this:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Select Tools, Internet Options from the menu
  3. Make sure you are at the General tab.
  4. Under “Temporary Internet Files”, click the Settings button
  5. Make sure it is set like the one below for these two items

·        “Check for newer versions of stored pages” should be set to “Automatically”

·        “Amount of disk space to use” should be “20” (you can just type 20 over whatever is already there)

  1. Click Apply, OK,  then restart your computer, and try the report process again

Windows XP:  Requesting Remote Assistance

Windows XP allows users to ask for technical assistance remotely and in  many cases, I can provide remote assistance much more quickly than I can if I have to go to the user’s workstation.  Think about using Remote Assistance the next time you need help.   Instructions are here.

Excel:  Importing Text Files

When you import a text file into Excel, you might need to change all of the column formats from General to Text.  This can be time consuming if the file contains a large number of columns.  To speed things along, at step 3 of the import process, select the first column, then scroll until the last column is visible.  Hold down the Shift key and select the last column, and then change the data type to Text.

Outlook:  Configuring Outlook on a new computer (Windows XP Computers only)

When you logon to a new computer (or a computer that was being used by someone else) for the first time, you must configure Outlook for your email. Instructions are here.
